Factory #31 Postcard

This view at the new axle plant you are facing north. You will note the overhead bridge for bringing the axles to the assembly plant. In the 1970's when I worked in the assembly plants the axles for the big cars were carried through this bridge and entered factory #04 on the third floor and then directly to the first floor. The small car line had it's axles loaded in racks and delivered by truck, you will see these silver racks in the next post. I unloaded axles when I worked assembly in factory #40 bldg.16 chassis line and installed the rubber bumpers on them before sending them down the line. I also unloaded many from trucks and rail-cars when I later worked material control at which time we were then called department #88.
